Work Packages

WP1: Patients' Needs and Ethical Framework

Lead: Institut Guttmann
Duration: M1-M48

Objectives

  1. State of the art of factors that influence stroke and related conditions regarding the four phases of the patient journey (1-Prevention, 2-Acute disease, 3-Rehabilitation, 4-Follow-up), Quality of Life (QoL) and their respective risk factors.
  2. Ranking of unmet clinical needs regarding main stakeholders along the four patient journey phases.
  3. Identification of scenarios and use cases with their inputs and outputs
  4. Specification of end users’ requirements by means of dynamic and iterative feedback
  5. Devising a set of appropriate ethical guidelines to account for the specificities of data-driven research in personalized medicine and for multi-dimensional prediction
  6. Analyzing patients’ attitudes towards multi-dimensional prediction
  7. Assess the ethical frameworks, and create a deliberative dashboard to discuss and resolve further ethical issues.

WP2: Data Management

Lead: Charité
Duration: M1-M48

Objectives

  1. Specification of interfaces for data integration from partners and existing local data collections
  2. Creation of secure data exchange and integration systems
  3. Flexible and scalable data storage
  4. User and rights administration
  5. Compliance with data protection provisions
  6. Design of interfaces of DSS for clinical application
  7. Usability and acceptance in clinical setting of the DSS as minimal viable product

WP3: Data Semantics and Harmonisation

Lead: Medical University of Graz
Duration: M4-M48

Objectives

  1. Collect requirements for data integration, driven by machine learning / prediction use cases
  2. Construct a thesaurus for seven languages covering all use cases
  3. Construct a common, ontology-based data model, linked to the thesaurus, based on standards
  4. Develop extractors using shallow NLP for clinical texts in several languages
  5. Design a semantic warehouse in cooperation with WP2

WP4: Predictive Modelling

Lead: Dublin Institute of Technology
Duration: M1-M48

Objectives

  1. Identify robust predictors for resilience and recovery from stroke
  2. Create a set of integrative multi-scale predictive models that together cover the life-stages of stroke treatment in a manner that enables health-care professionals to model individual patient trajectories and thereby design personalised interventions plans for stroke prevention, treatment, rehab, and post-rehab integration
  3. Validate the predictive capability of these models against data from state-of-the-art clinical and/or laboratorial studies and/or against large health registries
  4. Contribute to the design of a set of novel interventions for stroke prevention and treatment
  5. Develop an integrated open web-platform that supports stroke treatment and research

WP5: Clinical Studies for Model Validation

Lead: Charité
Duration: M1-M36

Objectives

  1. Design and conduct of a clinical validation study for stroke treatmentT
  2. Design and conduct of a clinical validation study for rehabilitation/reintegration
  3. Development of an electronic patient-reported outcome concept
  4. Assessment of usability and clinical integration of predictive models
  5. Development and pilot implementation of a clinical decision support system

WP6: Socio-economic modelling and innovation management

Lead: empirica
Duration: M1-M48

Objectives

  1. To model and simulate social-scientifically and in a multi-disciplinary fashion economic and social data and predict costs and benefits of long-term care dependency, re-integration to work, and health care provider spending.
  2. To conceptualise, develop and test an an economic model to generate a planning and care management guidance tool for decision-makers, including prediction and evaluation.
  3. To strategically manage innovation output and exploitation with a clear focus of impacting the care delivery value chain for stroke.
  4. To develop healthcare, lifestyle, and well-being deployment scenarios and assess benefits and costs for all PRECISE4Q application scenarios and related personalised interventions.

WP7: Project Management, Communication, and Outreach

Lead: empirica
Duration: M1-M48

Objectives

  1. Set up a project management structure that ensures efficient operational management according to the work plan, including administrative, financial and legal issues.
  2. Oversee resources, procedures (e.g. cost control, quality control procedures on deliverables) and tools for ensuring that all results are delivered on time.
  3. Support the external communication of project results and support work dynamics to help drive the whole consortium as a team.
  4. Initiate an European open innovation and science initiative for stroke.

WP8: Ethics requirements

Lead: Charité
Duration: M1-M48

Objectives

  1. Set up ‘ethics requirements’ that the project must comply with.
  2. Ensure project work is compliant with the established ‘ethics requirements’.
